January 2024 Volunteer Spotlight

Corey Toombs, Resident Firefighter, Sacheen Lake Station

Lieutenant Corey Toombs, a single father of a teenage son, is our January Volunteer of the Month. In addition, he has been named the SPOFR 2023 Firefighter of the Year. Corey has been a volunteer firefighter with SPOFR for three years. He has a CLASS A CDL, so he is very capable of driving our engines and tenders and helping with the EVIP driving program. He also was on two wildland fire teams during the summer of 2022 in Colville and the Wagner fire. Corey also worked the Oregon Road Fire and the Gray Road Fire recently. In addition, Corey helped with the Fire Academy this year by working with Captain Hogue to set up the training grounds and helping with the testing for this academy. Corey received a commendation from Spokane Fire for assisting with an emergency call on his return from the Gray Road fire. Corey is the resident firefighter at Station 32 in Sacheen Lake.

Congratulations, Corey, on being our Volunteer of the Month recipient!
