South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue has a new volunteer appreciation program called SPOFR Volunteer Spotlight. This is a way to recognize our volunteers when you see them in the community, at the grocery store or any local activities.
FEBRUARY SPOTLIGHT
Our February volunteer is Larry Hiebert, Battalion Captain and former Chief at Fire District 8 prior to the merger in January. Larry started in 1989 when they started a Fire Association and he remembers a phone tree calling system for fires response. Then in 1993 he attended the Fire Academy, was promoted to Assistant Chief in 2009, and then Fire Chief in 2011 until the current merger. Larry has attended Safety Officer and Ice Rescue Training and is currently studying for his National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians exam. He is married to Jackie Hiebert and together they have 8 children, with three sons currently serving as volunteer firefighters, 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Larry said, “I could not have accomplished so much in the Fire Service without the support of Jackie.”
Congratulations, Larry, on being our February Volunteer Spotlight recipient.
