Captain Joanie Suttle

Captain Joanie Suttle is a trained Firefighter, EMT and certified Wildland Firefighter. She is one of the most involved volunteers who makes a huge difference in the effectiveness of our Sacheen Lake Station. She was the Fire District 3 "Firefighter of the Year" in 2001 and continues to be a leader every year. Even with her busy schedule of activities, Joanie always finds time to serve the community.

Joanie has been with the department seven years and lives in the Sacheen Lake community. She is now retired from her career as a professional educator in the Spokane area. In addition to her regular duties as a Firefighter/ EMT, Joanie also serves as the Fire District Safety Officer. Joanie does a great job in assuring the safety of our volunteers both at training events and at real incidents. She has implemented a number of new programs that assist in our learning experiences from near miss situations. She also completes regular safety inspections of our three fire stations. Joanie has attended many training sessions in order to further the safety of our firefighters here in the county.

Joanie is also an active participant with the Pend Oreille County Fire District No. 3 Auxiliary. The Auxiliary is a group of community members that assist the fire department in many ways. They help with our open house events, provide refreshments for large events for the firefighters and hot coffee at those cold winter fires. Thanks, Joanie, for all that you do!
