Firefighter of the Year 2004 Harry Egland Firefighter / Equipment Officer / Wildland Fire Certified Harry became a volunteer Firefighter with South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue (POFD 3) on June 1, 2001. He is one of our volunteers that has led a very productive professional life and now enjoys his retirement with his wife, Doris, in the Diamond Lake area. Harry is one of the leaders of the district in responses to the community and he works with other volunteers in keeping the equipment at the Diamond Lake Station in a ready state. He has been very active with our wild land suppression activities and has been on three large projects fires including the Columbia Complex last year. Harry is also actively involved in our apparatus projects. He was instrumental in the completion of out newest water tender at the Diamond Lake Station. He assisted in the construction, plumbing and outfitting the tender. Harry has also been active in the design and construction of the new Heavy Rescue / Support vehicle, which is one of his pet projects As the Equipment Officer for South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue, Harry is in charge of issuing and maintaining the personal protective equipment, radios and pagers for the members of the district. Like many of our volunteers, Harry sincerely enjoys the people he works with at SPOFR and is always eager to lend a helping hand on the many projects that improve the operations of the department and keeping the fire district ready to respond.
