VOLUNTEER MEMBER INFORMATION

"Serving with Pride"

Join the Volunteer Fire Service, have fun, meet new friends, and serve the community!

» Greetings from the Chief

Pend Oreille Fire District No. 3 and No. 4 Chief Mark HavenerThe fire and rescue service is on of the most diverse and challenging professions today. It is the diversity that inspires most men and women to enter the service both as volunteers and career employees. This business is not for everyone. You need more than just a desire to help people. You need courage and dedication, assertiveness, and a willingness to learn new skills and face new challenges. Our service is one that calls on its members to perform hot, sweaty, dirty, and strenuous work, often in uncertain and hazardous environment.

The personal rewards and satisfaction received from the fire and rescue service are often beyond description.

We are here and prepared for one reason, and that is to provide service to the people.

In addition to our "Combat Firefighters" we have many opportunities for members of our community to be a member of the Fire District. We are active in Fire Prevention Education and Preplanning and need community members skilled that have life experiences that will add to the safety of our community

» General Information

Pend Oreille County Fire District No. 3 is a community based, emergency services organization that proudly serves the community members and guests of the fire district. We offer the following services to our community.

  • Emergency Medical Response

  • Structure Fire Response

  • Wildland Fire Response

  • Motor Vehicle Accident Response

  • Hazmat Response (Operations Level)

In addition to emergency response services, we also provide community education, pre-incident planning and other Life Safety prevention activities.

South Pend Oreille Fire & Rescue serves an area in south Pend Oreille County covering an area of 149 square miles. The area is served from 5 fire stations and a roster of nearly 70 volunteers. These volunteers serve the area with training in Structural and Wildland fire fighting, EMS, hazmat response and vehicle extrication. Our roster includes 36 certified EMS personnel that provide primarily Basic life support response. All of our Firefighters are trained in advanced first aid and CPR qualified. The area we serve is mostly rural in nature and offers occasional challenge in access and travel times. Our average response time for all calls in the first quarter for 2009 was 12 minutes. The volunteers train 2-3 times per month to maintain their skills in our profession. South Pend Oreille Fire & Rescue was recently created by voter approved mergers of Pend Oreille Fire District No. 3, Pend Oreille Fire District No. 1 and Pend Oreille Fire District No. 7. The merger has been an effective addition to the service to our community and we offer a higher level of service than we have experienced in the recent past.

Our Fire district has a unique motto that states; Family, Job, Fire Department.  We know that your time is valuable and we do expect a great commitment from our members. We expect to have fun and have members that are happy an and proud to serve their community.
