Assistant Chief Ryan Sams
Firefighter of the Year
2011

Ryan Sams is a lifelong resident of the Elk area. Ryan's dad, uncle and aunt were volunteer firefighters. He decided to become a volunteer firefighter/EMT with Spokane County Fire District #4, while he was a senior in high school. During his 21 years with SCFD No. 4, Ryan served eight of those years as a Training Officer. Ryan was selected to be the Fire Chief of Pend Oreille County Fire District No. 1 until it merged with Pend Oreille Fire District No. 3 and No. 7 to form South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue.
